• Suzuki Fellowship Award for Pre-Service Environmental Education

    Application Deadline - June 6th, 2025
  • Welcome to this page! Thank you for participating in the Dr. David Suzuki Fellowship Award for Excellence in Pre-service Environmental Education.

We recognize that educator candidates are at different points in their journey. By sharing your trials and hopes for your teaching practice, you contribute to an aspirational community of educators who are growing a reciprocal teaching practice with children and Mother Earth.

Your written response should focus on describing how your experience and reflections fulfill the success criteria outlined below.

     A National Award

In the past, the Dr. David Suzuki Fellowship Award recognized teacher candidates from Ontario until last year when the award committee decided to open up the award nationally. This award is now accepting applications from teacher and ECE candidates from across Canada.

  • Consider the following guiding questions:

What experiences related to environmental education have led to your interest in applying for this award? How do you feel children should learn about the environment? Please provide examples of times you have fostered environmental learning — whether, in your practicums or in other experiences working with children/teenagers? How do these examples demonstrate your commitment to incorporating environmental inquiry into your own teaching practice in the future? What does it mean for you to bring an Indigenous lens to your practice (please refer to our resource Natural Curiosity 2nd Edition, if possible)? How have you begun to, or how do you hope your practice will demonstrate a commitment to Indigenous education in the spirit of Truth and Reconciliation?
